Life is good…

I’m still happy to report that Mackenzie continues to do very well.   I read a lot of the other blogs and my heart goes out to all of those  tripawd heroes who may not be doing as well.  I am grateful that the worst crisis I have right now is getting ready for a 10 day trip (NY and Boston) and leaving Mackenzie and Kobe behind (and of course did I mention my husband too?)  I traveled recently for 5 days which was a good test for me.  Didn’t really worry too much except for when my husband called to tell me that Kobe (our little Golden monster boy) chewed up the carpeting on our landing of our staircase into shreds (I justify this by telling myself that he must have missed his mom.)  Other than that, everything remained pretty uneventful.  One night, my husband decided to take Mackenzie and Kobe to a neighbor’s house to play with their dog.  My husband has a big truck (yes, a Toyota)  but that didn’t stop Mackenzie from jumping in right away – she did it all on her own, into the back seat, without even a Ruff harness on (of course my husband doesn’t know how to put it on her yet :))  We were so proud of her that she could accomplish this huge jump.   I keep saying it’s those little things that you grow to appreciate so much after all that we’ve been through.
We go on our walks almost every day and we’re making great progress on how far we’re going now.  Every walk she seems to go faster and farther without resting as much in between.  So  what used to take us 30 minutes is now taking us 15 – 20 minutes.   She has her last chemo treatment (#5) when I get back and then we’re finally done with it all.  Yea!!  So overall,  life has been pretty uneventful these days and I am very thankful for that!

Sounds like you’re doing fantastic Mackenzie!!! So good to read that 🙂 Where do you live? We live in Maine…maybe you’re nearby? Just wondering as your mom said she was going to Boston & NY.

I’m betting Mom will be WAY happy when the chemo is done 🙂

Oh Mackenzie you are looking sooo beautiful! Imagine jumping into the big truck on your own…good for you!! I am certainly glad that your Mom wasn’t there to see that she would have had a heart attack.
What are you going to do without your Mom for 10 days? I sure hope that your Dad treats you just as well as she does (but I’m pretty sure he does)!
We are so glad to hear that you continue to do well and have all paws crossed that you will have many ampuversaries to come! Our hope is that one day we will get to visit and meet you in person wouldn’t that just be the best. Maybe the two of us could stand on Kobe’s head and show him whose boss!
    Thinking of you lots!
    Your Cdn friend Tehya!

    Hi Maggie’s Mom,
Thanks for your comments. We live in LA but I grew up in Portsmouth NH which is where I’m going in addition to Boston to see family and friends. I must be crazy to do this in Feb with all these snow storms! Where are you in Maine – I know it must be somewhere very cold! I saw that you were from Maine on one of your other posts and been meaning to ask you. It’s not often that I meet someone from New England living in CA, and especially a tripawd pawrent!

Yes, it sure does seem alot of CA folks on here! When I see someone from New England, I have to make a point of saying I’m from Maine 🙂 We live way on the Northern tip of Maine(Portage Lake)…probably 6 hrs North of Portsmouth thereabouts. There have been LOTS of snowstorms and we’ve been missing them! There ARE advantages to being this far North at times.(rarely any ticks too – haha!)

I can relate to you worrying leaving Mackenzie with your hubbie…although I’m sure she’ll be just fine…but us Mom’s know best and do best, right!! 😉

    Hi Tehya!
You are right – I almost did have a heart attack when my husband told me that she jumped in the truck! I love your idea of you and Mackenzie showing Kobe who’s boss. He would be intimidated for sure! We hope we get to meet you too – that would be pawesome!

    Hi Maggie’s Mom,
You are lucky to miss those snowstorms! Are you by chance near Camden and maybe Bar Harbor? I used to spend some time there when I was younger. You are way up north! Must be nice to not have to worry about those ticks either. And yes, you and Teyha are both right, Moms do know best. I will just have to trust that they’ll be in good hands when I leave :).

    Hi Mackenzie!

We hope your dad will give you lots of treats while your mom is away. That’s what Holly hoped for when her mom went to visit grandma last weekend – lots of peanut butter and cheese and all the good stuff! We love the pictures of you and Kobe. And how awesome that you’re down to one last chemo when your mom gets back!
    Hugs,

Camden is about 4 hrs. South! 😉 Maine is a BIG state… We go to Camden area often competing in Rally-O. Maggie will make her debut there in May !

Unevetful is a great thing when you live with a tripawd with cancer. It means things aren’t going the wrong way! We are very happy Mackenzie is doing so well! Don’t feel guilty that other tripawds might not be doing as well. Just keep being supportive and having a positive attitude. Oh and of course spoiling the kids!

Can’t believe how much Kobe is just like me. Chewing up carpet is something I think would be lots of fun! Remember Peyton was the perfect child not me 🙂 ! Luckly Mom and Dad love me just as much as Peyton and they spoil me rotten!!!

Keep your chin up while you are away from your babies! I bet the whole family will miss you lots!

    XOXO

Mackenzie is absolutely gorgeous (but I haven’t met a Goldie who isn’t, I must say). And yes, she does look like our Catie! Lovely, lovely.
