About Mackenzie

Tripawds is a user-supported community. Thank you for your support!

This blog is about my beautiful Golden Retriever, Mackenzie who is 7 1/2 years old.  She loves to swim, play ball, go for walks, ride in the car and play rough with her little brother who is also a Golden Retriever. In September she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front right leg.  This turned our world upside down when we got this devastating news.  We started with radiation but unfortunately, she did not respond well to it.   2 weeks ago she had her front leg amputated as this was the only option left.  Although it was a very rough 2 weeks during her recovery time, I am now very happy to say that she has recovered almost fully and we finally have our puppy dog back.  She’s climbing up and down stairs, jumping in the car, fetching her ball, playing with her brother and just doing all those normal activities that she loves – all on her 3 legs.  We are so proud of her and call her our miracle puppy.   We just love her so much and are so happy that she’s doing so well.

    Hi Mackenzie (and Mommy),

It’s Grace (and Mommy). Wanted to commend you on your blog, it tells her story so well. Thank you! Grace was Diagnosed on June 18th with Osteosarcoma. Had her right hind leg amputated on July 6th and had my first chemo treatment this past Monday (doing 4 treatments total). She is a happy girl and doing well.

Wondering if you are integrating any herbal supplements or anything in addition to the chemo. I bought Dr. Dressler’s book and read it cover to cover. I am home cooking all meals, giving fish oil and K9 immunity (with Transfer Factor) and considering some holistic stuff (artemisinin and Cumurin). It’s my understanding that 5 years is the record for a dog surviving osteosarcoma. That’s a great goal to shoot for! Grace is approaching 11 years young (11/25). Trying to do everything right and all the while keeping a good balance and doing everything in my power to provide Grace with the happiest quality of life possible.

Look forward to hearing from you.
